Robin Hamman

An early adopter by almost anyone's standards, Robin Hamman has been interested in online communities since 1985 when he set up a local Bulletin Board System (BBS) on his Apple IIe.

Since 1995, Robin has been researching and writing about online communities. He is also one of the most experienced online community managers in the UK. In addition to internet experience, Robin also has some experience of managing wireless communities using GSM mobile telephony and interactive television.

Before joining Granada, Robin worked as 'Communities Evangelist' at TalkCast (http://www.talkcast.com, an internet and wireless communications start-up based in London. He helped oversee community aspects of Texer, the UK's first anonymous SMS chat room services. He also helped develop ways to do SMS marketing through games, buddy lists and other user-to-user interactive wireless applications.

Prior to joining TalkCast, Robin was Communities Producer at BBC Online where he implemented the chat system still in use there today, ran over 100 moderated chats with a wide range of celebrities, experts, and politicians, and wrote the training manuals for message board hosts and celebrity chat producers. BBC Online is Europe's #1 content website and celebrity chats are regularly attended by over 5000 users.
